“the cultured man is an artist, artist in humanity”
– ashley montagu
that quote gives me much food for thought.
as an artist…..i’ve come to look at that definition in my own way. for me it includes how i live, how i am and every aspect of my being in every moment and day of my life.
life is my canvas and i paint it with the colors i choose and as artfully as i can.
it’s a work in progress – an ongoing work that evolves and expands daily. an ever changing story.
i choose the highest most dynamic and vibrant experession i can in every given moment. the shadows give life to the light and each aspect of the painting supports the other to make a whole. there’s no good or bad in it, it’s perfect in itself and every stroke i paint carries it’s energy and vibration that brings to life the picture that emerges.
we are all born with some kind of creative talent.
some of us may be aware of what it is and some remain oblivious through out their lves.
we are in truth creators of our own reality. that factor alone makes us creative beings. some of us can hone our innate skills and feelings as we become aware or and can say they ‘can’ and some go through life saying they ‘can’t'!
depends on us - how we choose to live our life. as empowered creative persons or helpless so called victims of circumstances and events?
the answer may lie in one’s view of how we see ourselves and the world around us and the whole bigger ‘idea’.
life is your canvas, you are an artist and you have the tools and brushes to paint your imagination and view as you wish. you are blessed with talent and ingenuity so choose the colors and paint your vision as you wish.
you are the master, artist and creator and writer of your own story.
creating art is a pursuit from ones soul and not an act of the intellect.
i know that it requires an act of courage to have the confidence, nerve and audacity to create nothing from something and present it before the world at large to see and interact with.
before we get launched onto any stage, our work as artists is hatched, nurtured and supported by the ‘sacred circle’ of family and friends who encourage and promote the creative spirit in us.
i recognize and am acutely aware of this nurturing and support that i have received emotionally and otherwise from my ‘sacred circle’ and give heart felt gratitude to all those who will feel part of this circle if and when they should ever read this message.
sometimes I’m asked about how much time I’ve taken to complete a painting.
now there’s no real answer to that question.
a work of art is never ever finished and there is no clear beginning nor an end. before the idea of it’s inception there would have been points of reference or recognition that would have inspired me to create the painting.
my work and myself remain a work in progress – a continuous circle of growth.
earth and what it is part of is also an on going process of creation that is ad infinitum.
everything that exists and has existed is a work in progress and we are co – evolving and co -creating.
yesterday I received this note from a friend who visited my ongoing art exhibition:
” today I had attended a funeral in the morning and i walked into the gallery with a heavy heart, but your ‘blue lotus’ at the entrance caught my eyes. it gave me warmth, enocuragement, comfort…..everything i needed. i have always been fascinated by your paintings ever since i first saw them in your dining room, but today i felt even more so.”
thank you dear friend. the purpose of that ‘blue lotus ‘ was served.
i feel as an artist i’m walking the tide line like a beachcomber, picking up things washed ashore….some small stray thing tells me a story that i pick up and i want to tell that little story in my own way. who knows what the meanderings of a heart are…. i simply listen to its call and try to express what i feel in the way i’m able to with an inner play of ideas.
there’s a struggle and a joy in expressing what the heart feels and the mind connects to.
the result of this process is my art.
